Have you ever prayed for something—or someone—for years?
Today, I want to talk about the power of prayer and what I’ve personally experienced when it comes to waiting on God’s timing.
It’s not always easy… but oh, it is always worth it.
There are two people in my life I’ve prayed for specifically and consistently. One for about four years, and the other for nearly three. I prayed with purpose—asking God for something very specific in each of their lives. And recently, He answered both prayers.
Not only did He answer them—He answered them in a way that left me in awe.
And what stood out to me most wasn’t just the outcome…
It was the timing.
God’s Timing, Not Ours
We want to see results right away, especially when we’re praying for someone’s heart to change… for them to receive the freedom that only comes from Jesus. When someone’s stuck in anger or bitterness, we know how heavy and imprisoning that is—and it’s natural to want them to find peace now.
But here’s the truth:
When we pray, we’re not just giving God our requests.
We’re giving Him our trust.
We’re surrendering the outcome and the timing.
He Loves Them Even More Than You Do
This is something I remind myself often:
God is omniscient. Omnipresent. All-powerful.
And He loves the people I pray for even more than I do.
I can’t love them more than He already does.
And when I pray according to His will—especially prayers for salvation, healing, and freedom—I know He hears me. I know He’s working, even when I can’t see it.
Don’t Get in the Way
There were moments along the way when I was tempted to step in. To fix it. To say something. To do something.
But I’ve learned that impatience can interfere with what God is doing.
When we try to take control, God—gracious as He is—often steps aside and lets us try. But eventually, when we find ourselves tired and weary, we return to Him. And He’s always there, waiting with open arms.
There’s a lesson in that too.
Sometimes the waiting isn’t just for them—it’s for us.
