This morning, after watching a YouTube video by Joshua Becker titled It Is Better To Donate Than Resell, I felt really inspired. One quote in particular stuck with me:
“O
ur excess could become a blessing to somebody else”
That simple idea really made me pause. Lately, I’ve been decluttering, and like many of you, I’ve wrestled with the question:
Should I sell this… or just give it away?
The Garage Sale Dilemma
Joshua shared about a garage sale he and his wife once held. They were deep into their minimalism journey and had collected a lot of items to let go of. But after all the work—pricing, setting up, spending their weekend—they realized the money they made didn’t quite match the effort they put in.
And honestly? That resonated with me.
I’ve never had a garage sale. Not once. In my mind, it’s just too much work. Gathering change, dealing with pricing, the hassle of people handing you a dollar for a 50-cent item—it’s just not worth the energy for me. And while I know there are apps like Venmo, I’m old-school, and I’ll admit—I have trust issues with digital payments!
Letting Go Can Be a Blessing
This morning in my basement, I saw a vine I had used for my country-style décor. I probably paid good money for it years ago at one of those charming stores. For the longest time, I held onto it thinking, “Maybe I can sell this…”
But I’ve shifted to a more minimal look—open spaces, calm, and less clutter. That vine no longer fits.
So I asked myself:
Would someone else be blessed by this?
Maybe someone who can’t afford to decorate their home right now. Even if they resell it, the money might help in some small way. Either way, it leaves my home and blesses another.
Once It’s Gone… I Don’t Miss It
If you’re like me and hesitate to let go because you might sell something one day—here’s what I’ve discovered:
Once it’s gone, I rarely think about it again.
I honestly can’t remember many of the things I’ve posted to my local Buy Nothing group. Some of those items had sentimental value or seemed “too valuable” to give away. But once they left, they left my mind too—and my home felt more peaceful.

Should I sell it, trash it, or donate it?
Final Thoughts
Decluttering isn’t just about having less. It’s about living with more:
- Purpose
- Peace
- Freedom
Let’s keep encouraging one another as we simplify and make room for what really matters.
It’s a beautiful day here in Pennsylvania (I actually have shorts on!). Wherever you are, I hope your day is full of joy—and as always…
God bless you. 💛
