Less Stress, More Control
One of the most significant changes I’ve noticed is how much less stress I experience. Decluttering my home and downsizing my belongings have contributed immensely to this. When I look around my house, I no longer see piles of unnecessary things weighing me down. I can control my environment now—I make choices about how I spend my time and who I allow into my life. I’ve also learned to say no to things that don’t serve me, reducing unnecessary obligations and conflicts.
Less Drama, More Boundaries
I have significantly less drama in my life because I have built strong boundaries. Social media can be a source of unnecessary stress, so I’ve limited my time online, choosing to unfollow people or ignore posts that trigger negativity. Even within my personal relationships, I have distanced myself from those who thrive on conflict. Creating a “stress-free zone” has been life-changing, allowing me to embrace peace in my everyday life.
Less to Do, More Freedom
I absolutely love waking up in the morning, looking at my calendar, and seeing nothing scheduled. Having fewer commitments means I have more time for things I genuinely enjoy. While there are still necessary tasks like doctor’s appointments and self-care, I now have the freedom to prioritize my day based on what brings me joy. I’ve traded my “have to’s” for “want to’s,” and it feels amazing.
Less Spending, More Contentment
My shopping habits have completely changed. I was never much of a shopper, but now I have zero interest in accumulating more things. I focus on buying necessities like food and investing in learning experiences, such as online courses. I have the financial freedom to spend more, but ironically, I find I have nothing I want to spend money on. I no longer feel guilty about unnecessary purchases, and this has brought a deep sense of contentment.
Less Clutter, More Time for What Matters
A clutter-free home has given me more time for the things that truly matter, like Bible study, learning new skills, and serving others. I don’t spend nearly as much time cleaning because there’s less stuff to maintain. My home feels open, peaceful, and easy to manage, allowing me to use my time in more meaningful ways.
Less Guilt, More Peace
I have released myself from the guilt of saying no, spending money on unnecessary things, and engaging in negativity. I’ve learned to listen to what’s right for me and embrace the peace that comes with living intentionally. My decisions are no longer influenced by guilt or societal expectations, but rather by what aligns with my values and well-being.
Less Exhaustion, More Rest
Sleep has become a luxury I no longer take for granted. Without the weight of stress, financial burdens, or overwhelming responsibilities, I sleep better. And on days when I don’t sleep well, I have the freedom to take a nap without guilt. Rest is essential, and I finally have the time to prioritize it.
Less Waste, More Simplicity
By being more intentional with my purchases, I waste less. I stay organized with my food inventory, making sure things don’t expire. I don’t overconsume, which means less waste, fewer unnecessary decisions, and a more simplified, structured life. This simplicity brings me a sense of stability that helps manage my anxiety.
More Time to Serve
With all this newfound time, I can give back in ways that fulfill me. Whether it’s helping my daughter, serving at church, or managing my church’s website, I find joy in using my skills to benefit others. Service is deeply rewarding, and I believe God created us to find purpose in helping others.
More Time for Self-Care
Retirement and decluttering have also given me the ability to take better care of myself—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I have the time to exercise, eat well, study the Bible, and maintain strong mental health habits. This balance has made me feel healthier and more at peace than ever before.
Final Thoughts
This journey of simplifying my life has given me an abundance of what truly matters: peace, time, and fulfillment. Retirement and decluttering have allowed me to create a life that is intentional, joyful, and deeply content. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I encourage you to start letting go—whether it’s clutter, obligations, or negativity. You might be surprised at how much more you gain when you choose to live with less.
