The fifth commandment tells us to honor our mothers and fathers. That commandment comes with a promise.
At my Mom’s memorial service, I talked about the rewards of being obedient.
Although it was difficult at times, I had the honor of being my Mom’s caregiver. Thing is, once I served with the attitude of serving God with this task, I began to reap the rewards of the promise that comes with that commandment.
“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
Now, in my mind that abundant life is about being blessed as we live here in this temporary home. It is about the peace and contentment that is felt when I do things according to God’s design.
Serving God like this was not always easy, but I kept going. I stayed the course and I was obedient to His command.
When we do things according to His Will and His design, we indeed experience the abundant life.
