Lately, I’ve been enjoying getting back to basics in my kitchen. Nothing fancy. Nothing complicated. Just simple food made with ingredients I already have on hand.
This garlic bread is one of those little wins.
I got the idea from a YouTuber and immediately thought, Why am I not doing this already? Store-bought garlic bread is convenient, sure. But when you look at the ingredient list and need a dictionary to read it… well, that takes some of the joy right out of it.
This version is inexpensive, easy, and I know exactly what’s in it.
And the best part? I can make it ahead and keep it in the freezer.
What I Used
- Softened butter
- A loaf of bread (the only thing I had to buy and it was $1.98)
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Minced onion
- Parsley
That’s it. No preservatives. No mystery ingredients.
How I Made It
I mixed the softened butter with a little garlic powder, onion powder, minced onion, and parsley. I didn’t measure anything. I just added a little at a time until it smelled like garlic bread should smell.
Then I spread the butter mixture on the bread slices and laid them out on a cookie sheet.
Into the freezer they went.
Once they’re frozen, you can stack them or store them in a freezer bag. They’re ready whenever you want them.
Before I froze the slices, I buttered up the ends, the little pieces nobody ever fights over, and popped them in the microwave. I mean, you have to make sure it tastes good, right? And let me tell you, it passed the test. Warm, buttery, and full of flavor. That’s when I knew this was a keeper.
How to Bake It
Straight from the freezer:
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees
- Bake for about 5 minutes (keep an eye on it)
That’s it. Warm, buttery garlic bread with zero fuss.
Why I Love This
- It’s inexpensive
- I know exactly what’s in it
- No ingredients I can’t pronounce
- No last-minute store runs
- It feels good to make something simple myself
This is likely nothing new under the sun, but it felt like a sweet reminder to me. Simple choices like this can help us save time, stretch our budget, and be a little more intentional.
This is the kind of thing that reminds me that homemade doesn’t have to mean complicated. Sometimes it’s just taking five minutes to do what we used to buy without thinking.
Little choices like this add up. They save money. They simplify life. And honestly, they just feel good.
If you’re in a season where you’re trying to be more intentional with food, your budget, or your time, this is an easy place to start.
And if nothing else, you’ll have garlic bread ready whenever the mood hits. And that’s never a bad thing.
Have a wonderful day and God bless.
