There’s a heaviness in my heart that words can barely hold. But I know trusting God is what I need to do even while it hurts.
My daughter is currently going through cancer treatment, and as her mom, I’ve been walking this painful path right alongside her.
I knew the moment she shaved her head. I wasn’t there when it happened—because honestly, I couldn’t be. I wanted to run from the sadness. I felt like a coward for not showing up, but I also know I was just trying to protect my heart from breaking even more.
I sat alone and cried.
Because there’s something gut-wrenching about knowing your child is facing something so hard… and being completely unable to fix it.
She’s only two treatments in and already facing so much. MRIs, PET scans, a port placement, red blotches on her face from steroids, and the emotional toll of it all. And still—she worries about me. She checks on my heart. That’s just who she is: brave, thoughtful, selfless.
And that’s why people love her so much.
Despite all the pain, I see God moving. I see Him in the people who are showing up, in the love and support pouring in from every direction. The prayers. The financial support. The meals. The kindness. The tears shared with us.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
This verse has never meant more to me than it does now. I feel His nearness in the middle of the heartbreak. It’s overwhelming in the most beautiful way.
I also pray that women are paying attention—not just to our story, but to their own health. I hope someone schedules a checkup today. I hope someone sees the peace my daughter carries and says, “I want what she has.”
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” — Psalm 73:26
Some days I feel weak, like I have nothing left to give. But somehow, God keeps giving me just enough strength for the next moment. He is carrying us—both of us—through this.
So if you’re walking beside someone you love in their suffering, or if you’re the one in the fire, I want you to know:
You’re not alone.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” — Isaiah 43:2
This season is hard, but I’m trusting God through it. One day at a time.
As always, take what you need, leave the rest, and be blessed.
Love,
Kathy
