When people hear the phrase spiritual warfare, it can sound heavy, dramatic, or even a little strange.

But the truth is, it is something we all experience, whether we believe in God or not. It is that inner tug-of-war between what is good and life-giving, and what is destructive and harmful.

The Battle We All Recognize

Think about those moments when you feel torn inside. One part of you wants to choose patience, forgiveness, or peace, while another part of you wants to lash out, hold a grudge, or give in to despair. That struggle is not imaginary, it is very real.

Even people who do not believe in God know what it feels like:

  • The fight between hope and discouragement.
  • The pull of love versus the temptation of bitterness.
  • The desire for truth versus the lure of lies.

That is spiritual warfare.

A Fascination With the Spiritual

Today, more than ever, people are drawn to the unseen. Movies and TV shows are filled with ghosts, haunted houses, mediums, and stories about spirits. Halloween has become a celebration that often glorifies darkness.

The Bible is clear. Evil spirits are real. They are not entertainment or a harmless thrill. When we dabble in things like séances, tarot cards, witchcraft, or anything that plays with darkness, we are opening doors that invite harmful influences into our lives.

God gave a strong warning in Leviticus 19:31: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” He gave this command not to limit people’s fun, but to protect them from evil influences that want to steal, kill, and destroy.

Paul warns in Ephesians 4:27, “Do not give the devil a foothold.” And 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

What we are experiencing in this world nowadays is not just bad luck, chaos, or human weakness. It is spiritual warfare.

The Good News

Here is the hope. In Christ, we do not fight for victory, we fight from victory. The cross and the resurrection settled it. Darkness does not win. When we feel overwhelmed by the struggle, we can remember that we are not fighting alone.

God equips us with truth, peace, faith, and prayer. In Ephesians 6:11 we are told, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

The abundant life Jesus offers is not just waiting for us in heaven. It begins right now.

A Word of Encouragement

If you are feeling weighed down by the battles in your own heart, whether you call them spiritual warfare, inner struggles, or just life, you do not have to face them alone. Jesus has already secured the victory. The invitation is to walk with Him, lean on His strength, and let Him fight for you.
