And while those things matter, intentional living goes much deeper than the physical space around us.
I came across a phrase recently that stopped me in my tracks:
“Simplicity isn’t just decluttering—it’s choosing what truly matters and letting go of the rest.”
That really hit home, because I’ve spent a lot of time talking about decluttering closets, garages, and cabinets. And while those things matter, intentional living goes much deeper than the physical space around us.
The Clutter We Can’t See
Decluttering isn’t just about stuff. It’s also about the unseen clutter we carry around every day. Things like:
- Drama that drains us
- Worry that robs us of peace
- Getting involved in business that isn’t really ours to carry
These are the kinds of things that weigh us down and keep us from living with freedom.
What Happens When We Let Go
When we release those distractions, something beautiful happens.
- We find peace.
- We experience contentment.
- We free up space in our hearts and minds.
And in that space, God can do His best work.
BOOK RECOMMENDATION
The More of Less by Joshua Becker is a practical and inspiring guide to minimalism. Becker shows how owning too much stuff not only clutters our homes but also our lives, distracting us from what truly matters. Through his own story of downsizing and practical steps for readers, he explains how letting go of excess possessions can bring more freedom, contentment, generosity, and opportunity. The heart of the book is simple: the beauty of minimalism isn’t in what it takes away, but in the life it gives back. Get here here.
Making Room for What God Wants
Intentional living isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about making room for what God has actually called us to. Things like:
- Sharing our testimony
- Sharing the Good News
- Pointing others to the redemption we’ve found in Him
This is where true simplicity shines—not just in tidy closets, but in lives that are uncluttered by what doesn’t matter.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to join me on my other podcast, Oma’s Musings. There I talk about faith, simplicity, and what it looks like to live with purpose in our later years.
Because true simplicity isn’t about having less—it’s about making room for what matters most.
