I came across an old voice note the other day—something I recorded years ago while I was walking one summer day.
It was one of those brutally hot, humid mornings where just stepping outside made you sweat.
The Rhythm I Once Had
I had gotten into a strong rhythm back then—lacing up my sneakers, popping in my earbuds, and heading out the door with worship music in my ears and prayer on my lips. I was meeting with Jesus on those walks. And I loved it.
At the time, I was walking daily—going from barely squeezing out a half mile to walking four miles without blinking. I even had this little friendly competition with myself to beat my mileage from the day before. Just 0.1 miles more was a little victory. It felt so good to be consistent, to be strong, to feel my body and soul growing.
Life Has Changed
But here’s the truth: life has changed since then.
I’ve had a couple of injuries. Some seasons were just plain busy. And if I’m being honest, I’ve lost a bit of that early motivation. My walks look different now. Some days they’re slower. Some days they don’t happen at all. And I’ve had to wrestle with guilt over that—and extend grace to myself instead.
My “Whys” Remain the Same
Even though my pace has shifted, my why has not.
- I still want to spend time with Jesus.
- I still want to keep my body moving and my heart healthy.
- I still want to be an example—to my kids, grandkids, and anyone watching my journey.
- And I still believe in setting goals—even if they look different in this season.
Grace Over Guilt
If you feel like you’ve lost your rhythm, your motivation has faded, or you’ve had to start over again and again, know this: you’re not alone.
You don’t need to be perfect. What matters is staying committed.
Write down your reasons. Keep them close. Let them anchor you on the hard days. When you feel like giving up, they’ll remind you to rise and try again.
Even if it’s slower. Even if it looks different than before. Even if you’re starting from scratch.
Keep Showing Up
You’re not behind. You’re not too late. You’re just walking through a new season—and God is walking with you.
Have you had a season like that? Where your habits shifted, and you had to find your “why” again?
Let’s encourage each other in the comments below.
Until next time,
Kathy 💛
