Let’s talk about delegation, particularly for those busy moms out there who are feeling overwhelmed. What keeps them from delegating some of the chores in their homes?

Today, we might push some buttons, but I hope you’re willing to listen in and examine your heart. Are you guilty of any of these reasons for not delegating?

Delegating

Perfectionism

Many of us believe that nobody can do something as well as we can, so we hesitate to let others try. But this mindset can be limiting.

Guilt

Some women feel it’s their duty to take care of the home. While it’s natural to take pride in our homes, it’s important to remember that it’s not solely our responsibility. Everyone living in the house shares this space, and delegating chores can teach responsibility.

Control

Releasing control can be difficult, especially if we fear that the task won’t be done “right” or that the outcome will be different. Sometimes, control issues stem from fear—fear that others might get hurt or not do the job correctly.

Habit

We often fall into routines and find it easier to do tasks ourselves rather than teach others. But by not delegating, we’re missing opportunities to teach and involve others, especially children.

Communication

Sometimes, we don’t take the time to communicate how we like things done, which can lead to misunderstandings. Clear communication and explanations can help others understand and meet our expectations.

Teaching

Teaching others takes time, and we might not feel like doing it. However, we can’t complain about being overwhelmed if we’re not willing to show others how to help.

Remember, as parents, our goal is to prepare our children for adulthood. Don’t miss out on teaching opportunities, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. Perfectionism isn’t healthy, and we don’t want to pass it along to our kids.

I hope this discussion helps you reflect on your own habits. Which reason resonates with you? Are you willing to give someone else a chance, communicate effectively, and teach them? Let’s raise our children to be responsible and prepared for the future.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask yourself why. Is it because you don’t delegate enough?
