We all have cares in life. Some are big and some are small, but they all weigh on us. The Bible tells us to “cast our cares on the Lord” (1 Peter 5:7). But what does that mean?
It means that we are to hand over our cares to God. He is our heavenly Father and He loves us. He knows what we need when we need it. His timing is perfect. We need to trust Him and His plan for our lives. When we cast our cares on the Lord, we are free from the burden of worry. We can trust that God will work everything out for our good (Romans 8:28). So whatever you are facing today, big or small, remember to cast your cares on the Lord. He is faithful and He will take care of you.

1. What does it mean to “cast your cares” on the Lord, according to the Bible?
The phrase “cast your cares” appears twice in the Bible, in Psalm 55:22 and 1 Peter 5:7. Both passages are directed towards believers, and involve entrusting God with our concerns, acknowledging His sovereignty and control. This does not mean we become apathetic, but rather we transfer our focus from worrying to trusting in God. Trusting in God does not mean we won’t experience difficulties, but we can trust Him to work everything out for our good.
2. Why is it important to do so?
The Bible encourages us to give our worries and concerns to God, our heavenly Father. By trusting His timing and surrendering our lives to Him, we can find peace and rest, avoiding the anxiety and stress that come from taking matters into our own hands.
3. What are some of the benefits of casting our cares on the Lord?
Casting our cares on the Lord means entrusting Him with our burdens and worries, acknowledging His sovereignty and our need for His guidance, and focusing on Him instead of our problems. It can help us let go of control, draw closer to God, develop a more positive outlook, and trust that He will take care of us.
4. How can we practically do this?
When we release control to God, it doesn’t mean that we should ignore our problems or stop trying to solve them. Rather, it means we should entrust them to God, who is sovereign and good. We can do this by prayer and by meditating on Scripture.
Entrust means assigning responsibility to someone’s care or protection.
Who better to do that with than God~ Entrusting God can be a difficult thing to do, especially when we are facing difficult circumstances. But it is important to remember that even when things are bad, God is still good. Everything about Him is good.
It is helpful to use the Psalms as a guide for prayer. The Psalms are full of emotion and can help us express the depths of our cares and concerns to God. We can also use the Psalms to meditate on God’s goodness and sovereignty. As we do this, we will find our hearts filled with hope and trust in God.
Journaling is also an excellent way to remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness in the past. As we look back on what He has done for us, we will be encouraged to trust Him for the future.
5. What examples do we see in Scripture of people who did (or didn’t) cast their cares on the Lord?
Casting our cares on the Lord does not mean that we are to become passive or fatalistic in our approach to life. On the contrary, Scripture is full of examples of people who cast their cares on the Lord and who were actively involved in working out His will for their lives.
We see in the life of Joseph an example of someone who cast his cares on the Lord. Even though he was sold into slavery by his brothers, he did not despair.
He remained faithful to the Lord, and as a result, He was able to use Joseph to bring about His will in an incredible way. Joseph was able to save his entire family from starvation during a time of great famine.
We see in the life of Esther another example of someone who cast her cares on the Lord. Even though she was a young woman living in a foreign land, she did not forget her people. When she heard of the plot of Haman to annihilate all the Jews, she did not shrink back in fear.
Instead, she went before the king and risked her life to save her people. These are just two examples of many people in Scripture who did not let their circumstances determine their life course.
They did not let their fears or their doubts control them. Instead, they cast their cares on the Lord and trusted Him to work out His will in their lives. We remember when Abraham and Sarah didn’t trust God’s timing regarding Sarah getting pregnant. What a mess they made when they took things into their own hands.
