I am in a season of life where I have time to gently get into my day. I don’t like to overwhelm myself with too many things. Do you need to simplify your morning routine and calmly start your day?

It is, however, very satisfying to at least have a morning routine. I like the feeling of stability it gives me.

This is how my day starts:

  • Roll out of bed
  • Grab my glasses, phone, watch
  • Go to the bathroom
  • Take my morning meds
  • Grab a cup of coffee
  • Settle into my “morning routine” spot

I admit that I am a digital planner junkie. I have a couple of paper planners too. Shame. I fall into the shiny new object syndrome when I see women using their planners. They are so inviting, but truth is told, they are not for me. They are just oo busy looking and many times women think they need to fill up all those blank spaces with things to do! Like the lifestyle I try to lead, I am a minimalist even in my morning routine.

My Morning Routine

  • I read my daily devotional from Charles Stanley as well as the scripture that goes along with it
  • I read the daily Bible verse
  • I open One Note, ask God to search my heart, and point out any way I was out of His will the day before
  • I confess, then thank Him for all the many things I can be thankful for at that moment
  • I present my petitions to him

Then I proceed with a short paragraph that consists of the weather forecast for the day. I look at my calendar and write down anything important that I need to attend to or just make a mental note of. Then I write down any top-priority tasks. For instance, Friday is laundry day.

That’s it. That short exercise helps me to get an idea of what the day looks like. It’s all in one paragraph or so. It’s nothing fancy. It just helps to get me started and have some perspective.

I like to keep it simple. It keeps me feeling too overwhelmed. I hope I inspired you to develop a simple morning routine.
